The Arizona Secretary of State's office is charged with a number of important state functions, including serving as acting governor when the governor is absent from the state. The Secretary of State also works hand-in-hand with the business community. Their office is tasked with recording the partnerships of those who do business in Arizona and register trade names, trademarks and issue certificates of registration. Another important duty of the office is trustworthy, secure elections. One of the goals of their office is to register more voters and encourage them to become engaged in their elections. But even with this wide array of duties, their commitment to the public remains the same: to provide us all with efficient, friendly customer service.

Participants will learn:
  • What a day in the life of a Secretary of State looks like
  • Overview of the general election ballot initiatives
  • Insight on Governor Ducey's Executive Order for improving voter safety
  • Voter statistics and lessons learned from the primary election
  • Explanation of trade names and trade marks

Katie Hobb's Bio:
Secretary Katie Hobbs has led a life of service. Beginning as a volunteer at her church and continuing with her job as a social worker and chief compliance officer at one of the largest domestic violence centers in the U.S., the focus of her life has been to help others to gain security, to be heard, and to create better lives.

That fundamental motivation inspired her to run for Secretary of State, after serving in the Arizona House of Representatives and Arizona Senate as minority leader. Now, she brings her years of experience to the Office of the Secretary of State to ensure that it runs productively, and that Arizona elections are secure, fair and efficient.

Secretary Hobbs has a Bachelor of Social Work from Northern Arizona University and a Master of Social Work from Arizona State University. She has been a professional social worker since 1992. Prior to being elected to the legislature, she worked in the areas of domestic violence, behavioral health, and homelessness.

She has been honored with dozens of awards for her service. Most recently, she was named the League of Cities and Towns Legislative Champion for two consecutive years (2017 and 2018).

Secretary Hobbs met her husband at church in 1992. They live in Phoenix with their two kids, Hannah and Sam, and their dog and cats.

CANCELED: West Valley Biz 2 Biz Expo 2020

Dear Valued Members and Community Partners,

Each year, the West Valley Chamber Alliance works collaboratively to produce the Biz to Biz Expo, a significant networking opportunity to foster business relationships throughout the West Valley.  Given the growing concerns around COVID-19, we’ve collectively made the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 Biz to Biz Expo.  While this incredibly important annual event has become a favorite for many, the need to prioritize the health and safety of our members, partners, employees and community remains an utmost priority and was top of mind throughout the decision making process.  Although we will not be able to gather as in past years, we encourage you and your business to actively engage with your community Chamber.  Each day we work towards common goals; effectively advocate for business, foster relationship building and ensure communities are well served by their leaders and system of governance.  We look forward to Biz 2 Biz Expo 2021 and remain optimistic as the West Valley forges ahead.

Now more than ever, continued support and investment in your local Chamber of Commerce is vital and ensures continued momentum as we recover from this pandemic.  Chambers will continue to focus on steady, reasonable sources of insight and information while serving as a resource hub throughout recovery efforts.

The West Valley Chamber Alliance is a partnership of the Buckeye Valley Chamber, Glendale Chamber, Peoria Chamber, Southwest Valley Chamber, Surprise Regional Chamber and the Wickenburg Chamber of Commerce.

Sincerely,
West Valley Chamber CEO’s
Deanna, Robert, Scot, John, Raoul and Julie
