The Spicery is Glendale's Original Tearoom. Built in 1895, this unique and charming restaurant is located in in the Historic Catlin Court District in the heart of Downtown Glendale. The chefs fresh bake daily. They prepare the flavors of yesterday just like our mothers and grandmothers made. Enjoy our homemade fresh baked rolls, chicken salad and quiche, and make sure you save room for one of our delectable desserts.
The history of the Tearoom began in 1987. Marth Campbell was a visionary and had a dream to open a Tearoom. She purchased the home from the Brewster family. Martha grew up in Glendale and had always admired the Brewster home.
The home was built in 1895 by the Messenger family and was then purchased in 1936 by the Brewster’s who added to it over the years. They raised four boys and lived in the home until 1986 when it became a Tearoom.
Today there are several themed rooms to enjoy during your visit. The Rose, Pink and Blue rooms were originally the living, dining and one of the bedrooms. The Library has beautiful bookcases built by Mr. Brewster and a brass chandelier, and two of the original bedrooms offer dining and space for small groups in themed rooms.
Martha sold the restaurant in 2012 to Matt Borowski who grew up with The Spicery and Martha. In 2022, Bud and Lorraine Zomok along with their dear friend Sue Berntsen purchased the restaurant from Matt. They are committed to maintaining the treasured traditions of this one of a kind restaurant.
