BENTONVILLE, Ark., Oct. 7, 2011 – Sam’s Club today announced it is donating $10,000 to the Economic and Community Development Institute (ECDI) in Columbus, Ohio as the result of a campaign held during National Small Business Week.
The national campaign resulted in 11 local donations across the U.S., which were determined by the number of volunteer hours logged by club managers working in small businesses in their communities.
Reynoldsburg, Ohio, Sam’s Club manager John Kelly volunteered at a local Comfort Inn, assisting with tasks ranging from laundry to streamlining the organization and ordering of supplies. Kelly has plans to revisit the hotel’s owner to further offer his business insight.
"The volunteer work of managers like John echoes the commitment Sam's Club has to small businesses,” said Janice Trelewicz, Sam’s Club market manager. “We are proud to support ECDI, as we both work together with the same vision of supporting our local business owners and their futures."
Executives from ECDI and the leadership team from the local Sam’s Club will be on hand for the check presentation at 2:30 p.m., Oct. 7, at the Sawmill Sam’s Club located at 5870 Sawmill Road, in Dublin.
ECDI’s mission is to invest in people to create measurable and enduring social and economic change. Through programs such as financial literacy training, microenterprise development training and capitalization programs, and business incubation services, ECDI has created jobs, increased access to assets, and spurred local economic development.
The grant will be used toward ECDI’s Invest Local Ohio fund, which aims to help local businesses with access to capital for business start-up costs.
“The downturn in the economy has caused a gap in funding and access to capital, so our local entrepreneurs need help more than ever,” said Inna Kinney, founder and CEO of ECDI. “We are honored to receive this grant, which will aid ECDI in assisting entrepreneurs in central Ohio.”
