The Sounds of the Southwest Singers community choir is an all-volunteer 501(c) (3) non-profit organization and we are open to anyone who loves to sing. Our choir was founded in March, 2010 by founding director Matt Deller. We are self-supporting, relying solely on funding from individuals within the community as well as corporate sponsorships.
The Sounds of the Southwest Chorale (SSWC) is an all-volunteer choir under the umbrella of the Sounds of the Southwest Inc., and began during the first quarter of 2015. We are for the more traditional choral enthusiasts. The primary focus of the SSWC will be the more traditional classical music styles. The chorale is smaller by design than the original Sounds of the Southwest Singers (SSWS) and our positions are filled through an audition process. The SSWC will stick to a much more classical repertoire of both traditional and contemporary composers. To allow for the additional preparation time of these great works we will be performing less frequently than the SSWS.
We are available for concerts in most venues around the greater Phoenix metropolitan area.
We have performed on the stages of New York’s Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall. We have sung our way through Germany and Austria and on two separate occasions at Disneyland and California Adventures. We had the honor of performing at Pearl Harbor and aboard the USS Missouri in Hawaii.
Our choir also participated in a combined concert with Southwestern College in Chula Vista, CA and last fall we were chosen to be a part of a larger ensemble to sing in Rome, Italy, performing at the Vatican. In 2016, we are scheduled to perform at Carnegie Hall in February and tour England and France, singing in various Cathedrals and at Normandy Beach on July 4th.
Locally we have been featured during Glendale Glitters and have performed at the Arizona State Fair. We have sung our National Anthem for the Arizona Diamondbacks, National Anthem/Diamondbacks (video) the Arizona Rattlers, and during Spring Training at the Peoria Sports Complex.
Our choir has had many wonderful opportunities, both locally and internationally. The Sounds of the Southwest Singers enjoy working with notable musicians and conductors while visiting distinguished locations. Our goal is to continue making a difference musically in our community and wherever our talents take us.
We perform a series of themed concerts year-round throughout the Phoenix metro area, in many venues. We sing secular, sacred, classical, patriotic, Broadway, and pop musical
genres. Our most popular concert series is our Variety of Sounds concerts which gives our audiences a sampling of our vast musical styles. We are directed by Matt Deller and accompanied by Eric Fish.
